Delectable and seductive, showing dark cherries and game with excellent weight

DECANTER 90+/100 pts
Ripe cherry nose with hints of rose petals. Good concentration on the palate with flavours of liquorice and a savoury herb nuances. This is a gutsy yet balanced Pinot with excellent grip

This has an upbeat, red-fruit style to it. The oak makes a cedary, almost chalky impression on the nose, too: very young and tight. The palate has supple fruit, really brightly captured; it needs time to unfurl as oak has it on lock-down for the time being. Great wine here, with tannins mapping out a classy future. Drink in 2016.

ARCHANGEL PINOT NOIR 2010 (4.5 Star Rating)
Grown in the Cromwell Basin, this single-vineyard red is boldly coloured, with mouthwatering body and highly concentrated cherry, plum and spice flavours. Gently oaked and vibrantly fruity. It shows good cellaring potential.

Michael Cooper – WINESTATE 250th Issue

The 2010 Pinot Noir displays a medium ruby-purple color and aromas of red currants, black cherries and cranberries over hints of moss covered bark and cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied, it offers a very good concentration of red berry and earthy flavors with a medium level of grainy tannins, crisp acid and a long finish. Drinking now, it should keep to 2015.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - erobertparker.com 2012

93/100 - Plenty of detail to the fruit on the nose of this offering from Archangel. Bright black cherry, plum and blackberry combine with five spice, duck consomme, chocolate and raspberry compote to provide a heady brew. Substantial ripe, fine tannin, bright acidity and a lingering finish wrap up a delicious wine.

Nick Stock - GOOD WINE GUIDE 2013

89/100 - Robert Parker's THE WINE ADVOCATE

90/100 (OUTSTANDING) - INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR - Stephen Tanzer Sept/Oct 2013
Good bright medium red.  Savory aromas of red berries, cherry and earth, complicated by a balsamic note.  Juicy, spicy and dry, offering noteworthy intensity to its musky red berry flavors.  Serious, uncompromising pinot noir with an intriguing mineral component.  Still tightly wound but the finish shows very good energy, sneaky length and a light touch.

88/100 - WINE SPECTATOR

93/100 - 5 STARS (Outstanding quality showing varietal purity and exemplifying regional type)
A beautifully maturing pinot, the sweetly fragrant bouquet shows dark berry, floral, cedar and earthy mushroom characters, leading to a generously flavoured palate that is ripe, silky and smooth to the finish. Lovely integration and harmony from the bottle maturation, this is very seductive and charming. At its best: now to 2017.

WINE OF THE WEEK
This has wonderful purity, clarity, elegance and fragrance - all cranberries, cherries, nutmeg and a hint of coffee with a satin-smooth texture. Very grown-up pinot noir, and the 2008 was just as good, which bodes well.

ARCHANGEL PINOT NOIR 2009  (91/100)
Slightly more mineral, smoky character here, a little bit of charry quality, and the fruit still there. More edgy than the 2008 perhaps, hinting at more structure and complexity, though without the seductive creaminess at this stage - though the ripe fruit is all there and suggests this will age nicely.

ARCHANGEL PINOT NOIR (4 Star Rating)
The 2009 vintage (4 Stars) is a single-vineyard red from Queensberry, halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques. Full-coloured, it is mouth-filling, sweet-fruited and vibrantly fruity, with concentrated cherry, plum, herb and spice flavours, and a subtle seasoning of oak. Potentially the best yet, the 2010 (4 Stars) is deeply coloured, with good density of cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity and suppleness.

Succulent style with a lovely spread of red plum and prune fruit. Cherry aromas, a hint of damson and fresh spice.

ARCHANGEL ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2009 (93 points)
There is something so very comfortable, soft and seductive about the best New Zealand Pinots, and this has all those qualities to spare. The suave, sensual palate is full of deliciously focused, unforced, pure dark red fruit – there's not a hair out of place here. A real crowd-pleaser.

PINOT NOIR 2008

GOLD – Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2009
An intensely flavoured wine showing dark cherry, spicy oak and a touch of game flavours with a satin smooth palate.

HEAVENLY PINOT
Archangel's inaugural Pinot Noir release is a deeply impressive wine with a satiny palate of sumptuous and juicy black cherry fruit, toasty spice and hints of game.

ARCHANGEL PINOT NOIR 2008 (4 Star Rating)
The 2008 vintage (4 Stars) is a very elegant, ruby-hued, single-vineyard red, grown at Queensberry, half-way between Cromwell and Wanaka. Sweet-fruited and supple, with cherry, herb and spice flavours, showing some savoury complexity.

Michael Cooper

OUTSTANDING
This is the initial release of this label. Gloriously fresh aromas of red and black cherries, great fruit depth with spicy hints and a plush, silky palate.

ARCHANGEL PINOT NOIR 2008 (91/100)
The first vintage of vines planted in 2003. With the Vintner in UK (Tom Gilby). Lovely delicate but fruity nose, but chocolaty and creamy too, with an earthiness and on the palate lovely fruit and creamy focused and silky tannins. Lovely natural concentration here and great depth of fruit.
